Overview.
I was so excited when one of my good friends asked me to help her design some business cards for her freelance landscape design business. We are both creatives at heart, so we had so much fun trying out different designs and playing around with fonts and colors.
The goal of this project was to create a business card that embodied Ashley’s personality so she would have something tangible to give to potential clients. I used Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop & Procreate to complete this project.
Ashley’s Persona Development
I knew that these business cards couldn’t be generic; Ashley is by far one of the most creative people I have ever met, and she never does anything half-heartedly. So, I wanted her business cards to be unique and fun while embodying her love for plants.
She is always trying to find more environmentally friendly ways to do things, so I also wanted to try to find a company that uses recycled paper or some other eco-friendly material to print the cards.
Iteration 01: playing with earthy tones
Because Ashley is a landscape designer, she wanted to try some shades of brown alongside other colors from nature. I went with a clean, sophisticated style for these iterations.
Iteration 02: trying out a rustic orange & some fun fonts
Ashley also said she wanted to see a design with this rustic orange. We decided to play around with different fonts as well, which foreshadowed our final design’s bolder look.
Iteration 03: adding a pop of color…
While Ashley was liking the designs, they weren’t bold enough. So, we were browsing color palettes on coolors.co when we came across a bright, neon green and a vibrant orange. We decided to run with them, and I created two designs that ended up being the final products.
Printing
As I mentioned, we wanted to use environmentally-friendly material for her cards, so I did some research and came across these cotton business cards from MOO that are made of 100% recycled t-shirts. She loved them!
